AEW VISA
Accredited Employer work Visa
An Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) is a temporary work visa offered by Immigration New Zealand that allows skilled migrants to work for a specific accredited employer in New Zealand
With this visa you can
-
Work in New Zealand for an accredited employer who has offered you at least 30 hours work a week.
-
Study for up to 3 months in any 12 month period, or do any study required as part of your employment.
-
If you are eligible, apply for a Straight to Residence Visa, Work to Residence Visa, Care Workforce or Transport Work to Residence Visa.
-
If you are eligible, use skilled work experience in New Zealand to claim points towards the Skilled Migrant Category Resident Visa.
-
Benefits for Employers:
-
Streamlined Process: Employers with accredited status can hire migrants
-
Access to Skilled Workers: Accredited employers can attract talent from overseas to fill positions where there might be a shortage of qualified New Zealanders.
Benefits for Migrants:
-
Work Authorisation: The AEWV allows the migrant to work full-time (at least 30 hours per week) for the accredited employer who offered them the job.
-
Potential Pathway to Residence: Depending on the occupation and meeting specific criteria, the AEWV can act as a stepping stone towards obtaining New Zealand residency through options like the Skilled Migrant Category Resident Visa, Work to Residence visas etc.
Key Points to Remember:
-
Employer Accreditation: The employer, not the migrant, needs to be accredited by Immigration New Zealand to offer AEWV positions.
-
Job Offer and Job Check: A valid job offer from an accredited employer and a successful "Job Check" (verifying no suitable New Zealander was found) are essential requirements.
-
Visa Duration: The AEWV can be granted for up to 5 years in certain skilled positions, or it could come down if the migrant's job pays at or above the median wage in New Zealand or if its a lower skill level occupation. If the wage falls below the median, the visa duration may be limited to two years.
